| So What's This All About? |
Jamglue is Changing the Way Fans Consume Music.
Jamglue is a thriving online community for creating and personalizing audio. We let you upload and record music, remix it online, and share your hot mixes with everyone. On Jamglue, it's simple and fun for fans to get INVOLVED with the music they love!
For Fans...
Whether or not you are a musician, Jamglue makes it super simple for you to express yourself through music! You can make mashups, record your voice or other instruments, add sound effects to songs, or add a cool beat to a speech or quote! Here are the main features that make this possible:
- Mixing on Jamglue is a snap to pick up. We've worked hard to simplify the music mixing experience and make it accessible for everyone. And, you can easily improve your mixing skills by looking at other people's mixes and using their techniques in your own mixes.
- Jamglue is a great place to discover original new music that you won't hear anywhere else! Also, it's really easy to keep up with music that your friends are creating on Jamglue. Just add yourself as a fan of someone, and you'll be automatically notified every time they create a new mix!
- Sharing your mixes and tracks with the world is as simple as copying and pasting the embed codes into your blog or MySpace. Even better, we'll keep track of how many times your music has been played and which blogs it's been featured in.
- Best of all, Jamglue is free!
For Artists...
We think the world is full of talented bands and artists who don't get the exposure they deserve. And one way to really engage fans is to let them participate in the music by tweaking and remixing it. With our easy-to-use Flash based remixer, your fans can play around with your music right from their browser, and save and share the results.
As we grow our community of remixers and music fans on Jamglue, we're building an enthusiastic audience for artists like you. Now's a great time to contribute some of your music to Jamglue and really get people to listen, tweak, and remix it.
If you like what you see, try contributing a song in multi-track form (it's as easy as uploading an mp3 for each track). When you contribute your work, you can decide the license terms. We use Creative Commons licensing, so you can choose a license that protects your property, while still allowing others to share and remix it!
The Crew (and our Story)
Gautam and Casey, two of the founders of Jamglue, were in a band together in college, then after college moved to distant cities in 2003. They got excited about distance musical collaboration, as well as applying an "open source" model to music production-- putting it into the hands of many and making it less of a closed art form. We began building Jamglue in June 2006.
The original, raw version of Jamglue was designed to make it easy for musicians to collaborate over the internet. As the idea evolved, we got excited about the idea of making it easy for non-musicans to play around with music and learn more about how it fits together. Music is really hard to make; we figure with some good web-based tools and a community of collaborators, we can make it easy and fun.

How We Built It
Obviously, the most important ingredient to our amazing community is you guys - our enthusiastic, creative users! But if you want to talk nuts and bolts, Jamglue is built in Ruby on Rails. We use Amazon.com's Simple Storage Service (S3) for media storage and streaming, and we use Amazon.com's Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) for our backend audio processing. There's plenty of other stuff going on behind the scenes, but don't hesitate to ask if you want more details!
Sweet! So how do I get started?
